Fredericksburg Food Bank
11.01.2008

On Saturday, November 1, 2008 three of our members went out to dilligently work at the local food bank. Once there, we realized how much help they really needed. Despite the fact that numerous organizations had come out to help, the employees did not run out of projects for anyone to work on. For two hours, our group worked on organized a non-perishable aisle which consisted of throwing out expired items (we got 2 baskets full of them), putting things that would expire soonest in the front, and putting similar items together by general category. Though this may sound tedious, it was actually quite fun. You’d be surprised at some of the things you find at the food bank! Also, it seemed as though products were constantly trying to attack Melissa Ford as she was hit by several mysteriously falling objects throughout the morning. We will certianly continue this project in the future and we hope to see more of you there as the food bank is in extreme need of help and donations!

Fall Training Rally!!!

-
So this past weekend members from our club made a 3 hour trip to Appomattox, Virginia for Fall Training Rally. It was a 3 day affair that included getting to see club members from across our District, training, and fun-filled activities. After arriving Friday night, we all settled into our cabins and went to the welcoming ceremony. When the night was over we went to sleep and, luckily, our club had a heated cabin so our sleep was cozy!

Saturday was packed full of events that began with breakfast at 8:00am. (That’s right, 8:00 in the morning!) The rest of the day was packed with work shops ranging from training, interest meetings, dance lessons, and Tai-Kwon-Do. Lunch and dinner were both delicious and the Junk Yard Wars was a blast. Later that night, we all went to a bonfire to make s’mores, perform skits, and buy our District Board which was being auctioned off to raise money forh the Six Cents Initiative. In total, $2,525.00 was raised. Mind you, this money came forward in about 2 hours. CRAZY!

Sunday mornning began at 8:00am again and included breakfast, a scavenger hunt, and a closing ceremony. All in all it was an amazing weekend that brough our club closer together while letting us team up with other clubs to brainstorm ideas for the future. Though it took forever to get there and there was no cell phone reception because it was in the middle of nowhere, it was a blast!

Service Fest 2008!!!
September 13th, 8-10pm
Virginia Parlor
At this event, we had several stations for different types of service to kick the year off right!
The first station was card-making for parents of newborns in the hospital and label-making for candy bar wrappers to sell for future cancer research fundraisers.

The second station consisted of making pillows for senior citizens at Carriage Hill. It was easy, and required no sewing!

The third station was making an activity book for Bragg Hill! Pages ranged from word searches to coloring pages.
